You can also learn how to handle a situation with a dangerous dog or how to deal with being mugged. Wiseman explains how to realistically and practically approach these situations. After reading this book, you will be able to recognize risks, make quick decisions, and live confidently in a modern urban city center.
Would you know what to do during an unexpected disaster? With a very practical, real world approach, this survival manual explains what to do in almost any situation. Dave Black provides readers with step by step instructions and actions to makes it through a variety of cirses, ranging from terrorist acts to deadly natural disasters. Black has even provided plans for businesses, communities, organizations, and individuals based on the type of emergency and the environment you may be in. On top of all that, this survival book provides readers with a hierarchy for response that includes communication, healthcare, food, water, and shelter when government institutions fall. This book is a fun and informational read and even though you may not think catastrophic events will happen, you will still be prepared if they do.
When you think of prepping, you may think of the people on television that have ridiculous stock piles of supplies that will end up expiring in 5 years because it hasn’t been used, but in reality it is a good idea to have some supplies on hand for an emergency. This survival handbook helps you put a disaster preparedness plan in place for you and your family. All of the basic human needs are addressed and there is also information addressing the needs of the elderly, pregnant women, people with special needs, and pets. Whether you are an avid prepper or just starting out, this is a must have book, especially if you live with your family.
Wrote by someone who has been in a variety of crises and situations, this survival book gives you information on how to get out of trouble. McDougall reveals how he lives life and tells readers how to live life with the same confidence in any scenario. We like that this book is fully illustrated so you can actually see how to build a fire in a variety of conditions or how to build a shelter. There is so much information in this book so you can be prepared for anything. You should also be happy to know that Len McDougall has field tested pretty much everything, including water filters, kayaks, tents, cameras, and boots, so you can trust his tips and information.
Barry Davies spent 18 years in the British Special Air Service, so he knows a thing or two about being prepared. This survival handbook is pretty up to date and modern since was wrote in 2012. Davies has taken into account all of the modern aspects of society and put together tips and plans for you to continue your life successfully in a healthy manner when all else fails. After reading, you will be far more prepared for a natural disaster, biological and chemical warfare, a government shut down, and many more terrifying situations.
We know the chances of a catastrophic event can be slim, but after the tornadoes in Oklahoma, wild fire out west, and the crazy floods in Calgary having some extra knowledge and some survival skills would not hurt! And of course if a World War Z type situation occurred all the skills these books talk about would totally apply. So whether you are prepping for a hurricane, war, or for zombies these survival books will help you successfully make it through. Summertime means camping time and here in Michigan thousands of people are going to make their way to one of the hundreds of camping sites located in this beautiful state. The Harry’s staff is full of avid campers and we’ve put together a list of campgrounds that we highly recommend for your next camping trip. We’ve got something for everyone and these state park campgrounds are so awesome that even you out of staters are going to want to make the trek to Michigan!
1. Ludington State Park- Ludington, MI
Located on the western side of the state on the coast of Lake Michigan, the campgrounds at Ludington State Park may offer the best camping experience available in the state. Within the park are different campgrounds to accommodate different types of camping ranging from super rustic (no electricity and rustic toilets) to modern sites with showers, bathrooms, and electricity. They even have some cabins. What really sets Ludington apart from other camping spots is the variety of activities available to campers. For those of you who love the beach, Ludington offers several miles of beaches for you to relax on. There is a boat launch and if you feel like paddling into the lake there are boats you can rent. Catch some fish or go for a hike to the local lighthouses in your down time. There are 21.5 miles of hiking trails, a 4 mile canoe trail, a 2 mile bike trail, and a 10 mile cross country skiing trail if you happen to be there in the winter. This is the perfect camping spot for the whole family, whether you are a busy body or just looking for some relaxation time.
2. Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park- Ontonagon, MI
The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is located on the northern coast of the Upper Peninsula and is 60,000 acres making it on of the few large wilderness areas remaining in the Midwest. This state park offers a variety of camp sites from the rustic to sites with modern bathroom and shower facilities. If tent camping isn’t really your thing, cabins, lodges, and even yurts are available. If you are not familiar with what a yurt is, a yurt is a circular domed tent that sits on a platform. The activities are endless in this state park. If you are looking for some adventure try mountain biking through the mountains. It’s really the only way to get to the most remote (aka most beautiful) parts of the park. This state park also has more than 90 waterfalls surrounded by lush green forests. One thing to be aware of is that there are black bears in this park so there are certain rules that you will need to follow in regards to your food and gear. The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is truly an outdoor playground and perfect for anyone wanting to do more than just camp.
3. Tahquamenon Falls State Park- Paradise, MI
Staying up north in the Upper Peninsula, our number three pick is camping at Tahquamenon Falls State Park. This park has different sites to suit whatever type of camping you prefer ranging from rustic sites to cabins. The obvious attraction to this state park is being able to see the Upper Falls, which is one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. This waterfall is 200 feet across and has a 50 foot drop. It is truly something to see. Four miles down the Tahquamenon River is the Lower Falls. The Lower Falls consists of a series of five smaller falls cascading down around an island. Not quite as exciting as the Upper Falls, but still beautiful. There are several different hiking trails to explore during the day and there are plenty of good fishing opportunities along the riverbank. Boat rentals for canoes and row boats are available at the Lower Falls. Black bear, fox, deer, coyotes, otter, beaver, and mink can all be seen in the park along with many different types of birds including the bald eagle. Moose can often be seen in the wet areas of the park as well. The scenic landscape cannot be beat and if your looking to see some wildlife this is the place for you.
4. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore- Empire, MI
If you are looking for a family friendly camping area the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is the one for you! Different camp sites are available depending on if you want electricity hook ups and there is also backcountry camping if you want the full on rustic experience. On the coast of Lake Michigan, there are beaches perfect for sun bathing and building sand castles. Your visit would not be complete without climbing the Dunes. Climb up to get exercise and a great view of Glen Lake. There are about 100 miles of hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty, so there is an option for everyone. Each evening the park has a free Ranger program which can keep the kids busy. Other water activities like tubing, kayaking, and canoeing are also available. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is really great option for families with children due to the vast amount of activities available that the kids would enjoy.
5. Hoffmaster State Park- Muskegon, MI
Last, but not least is Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon, MI. WE recommend this campgrounds for those with smaller children looking for a peaceful camping experience. Firstly this campgrounds has alcohol restrictions, so you aren’t going to encounter any wild parties going on all night. The campground offers a private beach and there is a larger beach in the park, both are pristine. Many of the camping sites are spacious and heavily shaded so you can get away from the sun. Children’s activities are hosted each and the Gillette Visitor Center offers other nature activities. The main attraction at Hoffmaster is the Dune Climb Stairway which leads you to the top of a dune with an observation deck looking over the dunes and Lake Michigan. The camp sites have electrical hook ups and the bathroom facilities are modern. This campground and state park is a great alternative for those who don’t want to drive all the way to the Upper Peninsula.

Hiking is a great way to get exercise, but it can also be an amazing way to see the world. Here are 5 places where hiking, culture, and beautiful landscapes all come together.
1. Cinque Terre- Italy
If you are looking for a less strenuous hike with plenty of amazing views and still
want to take in Italian culture, hike Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast in the Italian Riviera and is made up of 5 villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. You can hike between all five villages at your own pace with mountains on one side and the sea on the other. Taking the coast trail takes about five hours at a continuous pace. There is a more difficult trail that goes along the ridge if you are looking for something more challenging. Be sure to bring a bathing suit on this hike because you will most definitely get tempted by the sea. Don’t worry about getting tired either! Trains and ferry service connect all the villages as well!
2. Mont Blanc – France, Italy, & Switzerland
This European hike takes you through three countries and all throughout the Alps. This hikes takes you on a two week circle and has huts to stay in at night. Valleys, meadows, glaciers, and the white peaks on the mountains provide excellent views. This hike is best done during the summer so you can have good weather and this hike has very easy stretches and very difficult areas. Plus since you are going through three different counties, you get to take in three different cultures.
3. Tongariro Northern Circuit – New Zealand
New Zealand is a beautiful country and there are plenty of reasons to go there, but the Tongariro Northern Circuit is another reason! This hike takes you around one of the three volcanoes on the North Island: Mt. Ngauruhoe, which Is featured in Lord of the Rings. This hiking loop is about 19 miles long and your see a variety of landscapes like forest land, desert, and grassy areas. On top of all that, you also get to see Red Crater and Emerald Lakes. Plan for about 3-4 days to walk the trail and do it in the summer when it is well marked.
4. John Muir Trail – California, USA
Beginning in Yosemite National Park and continuing on 215 miles through Ansel Adams Wilderness, Sequoia National Park, King’s Canyon National Park, and ending at Mount Whitney. This is the perfect trail if you are a nature lover this is the hiking trail for you. It’s best to hike this trail in August or September so you can avoid snow and to do the whole trail takes about 30 days. For a more practical hike to this trail in one week sections and do one each summer! This is a moderate to strenuous hike so it is not recommended for beginners. This trail does require a trail permit and you will need to protect your food from bears.
5. Inca Trail – Peru
Often rated in the top 5 hikes in the world, the Inca Trail takes you through the Andes Mountains to Machu Picchu. This four day hike can be done if you are in decent shape and it is wise to take a couple breaks to adjust to the altitude. The landscape is amazing combining nature with the historic ruins of the Incas. Time this hike right and you can end up at Machu Picchu for sunrise ( the best time). Go from April to October and use an authorized guide. We also recommend getting good boots as some of the terrain can be hard on the feet and ankles.

Rihanna, Jay-Z, Common, Lana Del Rey….What do these celebrities have in common? They are all in on the camo trend!
Military inspired and camouflage fashion trends come back around every couple years and it just happens to be in right now. Huge fashion retailers have jumped on the bandwagon offering modified military looks that include studs, tighter fits, and high prices. Harry’s offers a lot of the staple pieces needs to pull off these hot fashion trends at a much more affordable price.
For guys looking to stay on point in the fashion game, a super easy way to incorporate camouflage into your wardrobe is with a pair of camo pants or camo shorts. You can go with the traditional style or a vintage wash. Jay-Z went with the traditional look, which is a stiffer, more crisp material. Camo pants can be dressed so many different ways. We really like pairing them with a bright pair of sneakers like Common to make the camo seem less military and more high fashion. Camo shorts, like the ones Lil Wayne is wearing, provide a more casual look and can easily be paired with hoodies, sneakers, and sandals.
Ladies, you too can find these trendy looks for less with Harry’s! If you aren’t ready to fully commit to the camouflage trend, then start out with a subtle camo hat like Rihanna. There are so many camouflage patterns available in the traditional patrol cap that you won’t have a problem find a hat to match your outfit. If you want a more bold look, get the paratrooper pants. Pair them with sneakers for a casual look or cinch the ankle openings and throw on some heels for a look thats ready for night on the town. Lana Del Rey has taken a men’s BDU coat and paired it with shorts and wedge boots.
We also have basic camo t-shirts that are also an easy and very inexpensive way to add camo to your closet. Also if your a local customer, check out our surplus section. We get plenty of surplus clothing including jackets, shirts, pants, and hats that can be worn as is or can be revamped. Our surplus clothing section offers slightly blemished clothing at ridiculously good prices, plus its authentic military gear.
Whether you shop online or in store, finding the perfect camo items will be a cinch. Hats, pants, shirts, jackets, coats, bandannas, we’ve got everything!
On an almost daily basis customers come in wanting to see items from Cold Steel. This is mostly due to the crazy videos Cold Steel puts out on the internet, but these products are pretty cool. Cold Steel boasts that they have the “World’s Strongest, Sharpest Knives.” Whether that is actually true, we don’t know, but these knives are pretty sharp out of the box. Cold Steel’s goal for over 30 years has been to keep producing the sharpest, strongest knives on the market and in the process they have had success in creating unique and innovative products.
New this spring to Harry’s is the Cold Steel FGX Karambit. This fixed blade knife is made out of Griv-Ex which is extremely strong reinforced fiberglass. Basically, this is a non metallic knife. This material also makes this knife super lightweight and unaffected by heat, cold, and moisture. The curved blade is also pretty unique. Another awesome product is the Cold Steel Kukri Machete. This machete can really do it all! Cut, scrape, chop, slash, hack, dig, you name it and the Kukri will do it! This machete comes with its own sheath as well.
If you are looking for something more…..practical, then check out the American Lawman Plain Edge Folding Knife. Built like a tank this pocket knife is super durable and has an extremely strong lock. The blade also has a black coating to aid in corrosion resistance. This would be a great option as an everyday carry knife.
If you are looking for a super sharp blade or just looking for a ultra cool tool, we would suggest getting something from Cold Steel. Browse our whole selection of Cold Steel products online or shop our selection in store.

For those of you who love camo, we are sure you have heard at least a little bit about A-TACS camo, but do you REALLY know what it is or what sets it apart from other camouflages? Many people don’t, so your friendly staff at Harry’s Army Surplus has put together a little info to help you understand the benefits of using A-TACS.
A-tacs is a new and radical advancement in camo design and technology. It was designed to answer the call for better and more effective camouflage system integration for duty personnel in any service branch from military to law enforcement. A-tacs is designed as a universal pattern for a wide range of operational environments with additional supporting colors and design variants to follow. Many of the modern digital camouflage patterns currently in use have flaws. Most digital camo patterns use small square pixels. A-tacs by way of comparison uses very small organically shaped pixels. The end result is that all the hard 90 degree angles of a typical pixel are removed which creates a camo pattern that has a more natural appearance.
The square pixels that are used in the digital patterns to create the distortion effect do not replicate the shapes, forms, and shadows of the environment that are deployed in, especially when viewed through optics. The ninety degree angles and the limited use of natural colors can make detection easier. This then produces a blobbing effect when viewed from a distance. Taking this process a step further the small organically shaped pixels are placed within larger groupings to create a pattern within a pattern. This radical advancement means that A-tacs is able to conceal the operator far more effectively and at greater distances vs. many other camo patterns. The A-tacs camouflage is one of the best on the market and provides the ultimate concealment in the field.
There are two types of A-TACS camo: A-TACS AU, which is meant for urban and desert environments and A-TACS FG, which works really well in forested environments. If you want to stay ahead of the game, we suggest purchasing some A-TACS gear. Check out our selection of A-TACS gear and stay concealed!
Hey all of you CRKT fans! Harry’s spring shipments have arrived with some awesome new toys for you! For those of you not so familiar with CRKT ( Columbia River Knife & Tool), here’s what you need to know:
1. They make innovative knives and tools for sport, work, and professional uses.
2. All of their designs are purpose driven.
3. Their amazing custom designs are offered to customers at an affordable price without compromising quality.
While looking through the goodies, there were some stand out products that we want everyone to know about. Anyone who knows anything about CRKT has heard about the popular Eat’N Tool. The designers at CRKT wanted to come up with something even more popular and function, so now we have the Eat’N Tool XL. So what’s the difference between this tool and original? Well firstly, the handle is longer making it easier to hold on to. The spoon is also larger. The XL version also features a can opener, an essential when out on the trail. The XL was made with all of the original features too like the bottle opener, 2 hex wrenches, carabiner, and driver.
Getting into the knives, the Otanashi noh Ken Clip Point Folding Knife is definitely the one for you if you’re into a more streamlined looked. It’s almost like carrying around a mini samurai sword rather than a pocket knife. The black coating on thee blade provides corrosion resistance and adds to the sleek, tactical look. The overall length of this knife is just over 10 inches and the blade length is about 4.5 inches. This is a pretty good sized knife, but the way it was designed makes it pretty easy to conceal.
Another cool knife that came in has been designed by the world renown knife designer, Ken Onion. That alone made us extremely interested in the Black Foresight Combo Edge Knife. This knife is a perfect example of how for follows function. Designed to offer maximum control, the handle is made with cold forged aluminum and finger shaped grooves, providing comfort. The mechanisms inside the knife make opening and closing the knife extremely smooth.
These are just a few of the great, innovative knives and tools offered from CRKT. Check the whole collection of CRKT knives and tools so you can get the perfect one to suit your needs!
Designed by world-renowned knife designer, Ken Onion, the Kershaw Leek is your ultimate sleek and slim, everyday carry knife that is super sharp! The Leek has the ability to cut through a variety of materials without any issues. Wires, tape, paper, and cardboard are just a few of the things we’ve used the Leek for and it’s held up very well.
The comfortable handle designed for the Leek fits most people’s hands fairly well and provides enough grip when using. There is also a pocket clip that Kershaw has added to the Leek that allows you to carry it either tip up or tip down. Although, if you mount it tip up, a small portion of the handle sticks out, it is still comfortable to carry and stays concealed.
One of the greatest features on the Leek is the Kershaw Speed Safe system. Extremely fast, almost as soon as your thumb applies pressure to the thumbstuds, the blade will shoot out and be ready to use. It was designed to be a one-handed knife so you are able to open the blade with only one hand.
The locking mechanism that Kershaw has used for the Leek is extremely durable and will keep the knife from opening accidentally which is an awesome safety feature.
Lastly, as the Leek is proudly made in the USA, we’re proud to recommend a durable, inexpensive, everyday carry knife that anyone can afford!
