Harry’s Army Surplus just received a great new knife. This blade is GORGEOUS! The Zero Tolerance Scavenger Knife (model 0400) is from the Kai family of high end blades (Kai USA being the parent company to Kershaw Knives as well) and is geared towards the “line of duty” fields, though as an everyday carry (EDC) it would be a great choice. The shape itself is designed by Ken Onion, whom is very well known in the world of knife crafting, and sports a SpeedSafe® manual assisted opening modified tanto style blade cast in high end S30V steel. The scales (handle) on the front have Trac-Tec grip tape inserts for a secure hold, while the back scales do not, allowing for easier “in-and-out” of the pocket when clipped. The black finish is not just a pretty paint job either! That is Tungsten DLC (Diamond Like Coating) which is going to protect that blade from just about anything the elements can throw at it!

The blade composition and Tungsten DLC make the Kershaw Zero Tolerance Knife 0400 Scavenger a PERFECT choice for anyone in police, military, emt/paramedic, fire fighting line of work. By now, many of you have heard about Siri, the “automated” voice assistant that is integrated with Apple’s new iPhone operating system. Well, if you’ve ever seen Terminator, you already know that this seemingly innocuous Siri is nothing short of Skynet. Think about it, she’s there living inside your iPhone, watching, learning and biding her time before she brings about the Apple android apocalypse.

With the prevalence of iPhones and iPads, the Apple’s Siri will ensure that our lives will never be the same. Basically, the singularity is here, human governments will soon fall and all we can really do is protect our own assets.

Boots can be great. They go anywhere, through any conditions. You just can’t kill them. Unfortunately, you may feel like they’re trying to kill your feet. But a little effort on your part can tame your boots.

First, when you buy a pair of boots, make sure you get a good fit. A salesperson that knows their stuff can be of great help with this. Don’t get a pair that’s too large, because the leather will stretch a bit as you wear them. When you go to purchase a pair, wear fairly thick socks like you will be wearing normally with the shoes.

When you get your new boots home, you’re going to want to start wearing them right off. Wear them around the house until you are certain the fit is good. Before you wear your new boots out, flex the leather as much as you possibly can. If you’ve bought a good pair, you won’t be able to bend them much, but you should at least try. You want to give special attention to the toe and heel areas.

Steel toed boots can be very useful, but they can cause you additional problems. In this case, make sure you are fitted by a skilled salesperson. This will save you many headaches down the line. But the only way you are ever going to get your boots completely comfortable is to wear them. So get out there and put some miles on them.

On this memorial day, we’d like thank all of the Veterans who gave their lives to maintain our freedom here at home. You live in our hearts and minds. We’d also like to thank their families who have sacrificed so very much.

In addition though, it seems important that we remember those who are still alive and have come home to us somewhat worse for wear from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We honor your sacrifice and hope that your burden will be lifted with time.

MRE stands for “Meal Ready to Eat.” MREs are field rations for soldiers in the US military forces. MREs are designed to meet a soldier’s nutritional requirements while away from bases. Each Meal provides approximately 1200 calories. As the name suggests the MRE requires little to no preparation. An MRE comes in a plastic pouch called retort packaging. The package is actually aluminum foil and plastic layered together.

An MRE pouch contains surprisingly good tasting food these days. It might contain chili, beef stew or even chicken strips. The food is already cooked, put into the pouch and the pouch is then sealed. While an MRE may be eaten cold, a Flameless Ration Heater (FRH) which uses water-activated thermal reaction allows many soldiers in the field to partake in a hot meal.

MREs must be able to survive parachute drops from 380 meters, and non-parachute drops of about 100 feet. The package must maintain a minimum shelf life of three and a half years at 81 degrees fahrenheit and a full nine months at 100 degrees fahrenheit. This is one reason that many people prefer to keep MRE packages as an essential part of a survival kit.
